upgraded to macrium professional 5 yesterday, but..
after reading this topic i decided to testdrive v5

here's what happened to me
1) winpe failed me using option of bootmenu (twice)
2) what worries me is that i had to reset my bios (twice)
3) when recovering using bootmenu my pc halted at bios post next boot & there was nothing i could do.
4) i was forced to unplug c:\ then reset bios using a bios backup i had stored on usb.
5) i've restored a backup with ifw (image for windows, my old backup software)

now using my old backup/image i'm reinstalling macrium 5 and surprisingly i cannot activate nore use macrium 5 due to license in use, this is the exact same image i had previously actived macrium 5 on, macrium 5 still refuses to activate.
so i'm reinstalling macrium 4 and luckily compatible with image i've made from macrium 5, i've restored successfully with macrium 4.
i needed my image created from v5 desperately hence i had other software in use that uses similar authorizations (drm).
when using such authorization/deuthorization schemes, software must work!.. in particular macrium, it cannot fail like this & moreover refuse to reactivate on machine it was licensed at.

why pc now worked after resetting bios?.. ahci/ide reset perhaps?
i've used macrium 4 many times, i have also additions and never had any problems until now.

resolved, wiped drive clean and now testing with vanilla windows and updated drivers, all fresh.

everything works & no more halting.
my problematic image had many drivers & updates installed,
it will now be much easier narrowing down if my problem would occur again.

the stalling were related to ahci/ide hence switching between made a difference, bios halted in ahci but not ide.

it now works with ahci as well

hi john..
no error messages, the very first text of "gigabyte technology" loaded and halted right after that.
it stalled at point when bios should say "detecting drives"

so only the very first text of bios loaded

Thanks for the extra information. Can you be more specific about the boot stalling. Do you see any bios error messages, such as unable to located operating system?

Kind Regards

when restoring with macrium 5's bootmenu it said completed successfully however upon reboot it stalls at bios.
unfortunately, yes.. i had to reset bios & unplug c:\ (tested twice & probably related to some bios setting) there was no other way.

so far i've tried only macrium 5's bootmenu & i have yet to try a rescuedisc, regarding the license i could recover my latest image i've made with v5 restoring with v4, so i'm good for now.

my spec's, gigabyte ex58-ud3r/windows7x64/intel-ssd 80gb [c:\]/two hd samsung's attached.
bios is set to ahci/hpet64, no fancy adjustments other than that.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the rescue boot menu.

You should never need to reconfigure your BIOS to enable the rescue boot menu item to work as it is configured as an extra item in your BCD and by the time this is p*************d, your BIOS has already completed its part in the boot process.

So we have a couple of questions for you to help us diagnose your issue.

1) Can you describe exactly what you saw when the boot process halted?
2) What version of windows are you using?

Regarding your v5 license issue. Can you send a message to support at with your order/license key details and we will resolve that issue for you.

Kind Regards
John - Macrium Support
