After running the fix boot tool from the rescue CD, my bootloader was corrupt. It showed the two installations of Windows 7 I have on my computer, but when trying to run one of those, it said that a certain file had an invalid digital signature. I fixed this by running the fix boot tool from the Windows 7 CD. My guess - maybe wrong - is that this happens because the fix boot tool doesn't actually support Windows 7. When rebuilding the bootloader it saw my Windows 7 installations as if it was Windows Vista.

I am afraid I can't provide more info right now because I'm leaving for a week, but if you need more info in order to investigate this, I will be glad to provide you when I am back.

Hi

Sorry you are having problems. The error is caused because the file 'bootmgr' was missing from the active partition. This may have been due to the wrong partition being set active. To correct this, the 'Fix boot problems' copies 'bootmgr' to the active partition. Unfortunately, Windows 7 64 bit expects a different 'bootmgr' file and generates the message you have seen.

To resolve the problem you need to set the correct partition as active (this may be the Microsoft System Reserved (MSR) partition) or copy 'bootmgr' from the previously active partition.

We shall issue an update to Windows PE to correct this.

Kind Regards

This is how Macrium Reflect sees the C drive on my Win 7 x64 desktop with 24.39 MB on the 'Active' partition. Could this be where the file "boormgr" is located?

Hello. I forgot to specify that both my Windows 7 installation are the x86 version, not the x64. Another detail that might help is that the boot menu, after fixing it with Reflect, was displayed with a different font. All the characters were exactly the same as the old good DOS, while the normal Vista/7 bootloader uses a sort of Lucida console font. Additionally, after fixing the boot again by running the Windows 7 fix boot tool on the Windows 7 installation disk, the PC showed while booting the "Microsoft corporation" sliding progress bar, the same of Windows Vista. If you have a look on Google you find that the Windows 7 bootscreen can revert to the Vista progress bar under some conditions when something wrong with the bootloader has been done (like editing it with some tools which are designed for Windows Vista).

Should you need me to perform any test, I can do this in September.

Your 'System' volume does indeed contain 'bootmgr'. For more information on imaging Windows 7 please see here: http://www.macrium.com/KB/KnowledgebaseArticle50049.aspx

To correct the 'Vista' style boot splash in Windows 7, run the following command from an 'elevated' command prompt:

bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US

An update to resolve the 'Invalid digital signature' will be made available this week.

Kind Regards
