I just received a new laptop from my company with the HD encrypted using PGP Desktop Full Disk Encryption. I need to enter a password even before I see boot selection menu.
I installed Reflect on the laptop to capture a full image of the base O/S (WinXP SP/3) before loading in all my apps and data. First I created a Linux recovery DVD. When I tried to boot from the DVD, the image seemed to load but then the screen cleared and the process seemed to hang.
I then created a BartPE recovery disk. The system booted, I saw the Windows XP splashscreen, but a few seconds into the boot process I received a BSOD.
My question is, what is Plan B? Is there any way to validate that either or both of the DVD's are working correctly and it is the low level PGP driver that is causing the problems? PGP will not be present nor will the disk be encrypted if I have to install a new HD due to a crash, so it should not be a factor during a recovery. Is verifying the DVD's on another WinXP SP/3 laptop sufficient to trust they are working properly? Is there any way around this at all?
