Any particular reason why a "bare metal" disk restore runs so slow? The full backup of the 500 GB drive (maybe 90 GB used) takes only 32 minutes but the disk restore on a brand new drive (exact same make/model) is taking over 3 1/2 hours?

I understand the backup only includes "in use" stuff but I wouldn't expect a 7-to-1 differential on restore; maybe 2-to-1

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us.

Is the image you're restoring on an external device, e.g.: a USB hard drive or network location ?

Kind regards.

Chris.

Hi,

This could potentially be down to the USB interface delivering data at a reduced rate.

USB 2 has a theoretical rate of 480Mb/s but in real world would never reach that limit. If the device is USB 1.1 then this will be much lower again.

Kind regards.

Chris.

But surely the USB limit would affect data flow in both directions?

Hi,

This could be down to the drivers used, if the backup was made in Windows with updated drivers whilst the restore was performed under WinPE or Linux based environments with stock drivers, there may be an inefficiency in the stock drivers.

Kind regards.

Chris.
