Hi there

Currently I have the 4.2 with Redeploy addition installed.
I wonder what benefits I would get from upgrading to V.5 all of a sudden...?

In fact I don't understand the timing of this upgrade at all..!
Normally you would expect an upgrade possibility when you reached V.4.9.
But until now the latest version is 4.2 - so how about version 4.3, 4.3, 4.5....4.9...???!!!

What exactly is the point here..?!

The version number (4.2) is irrelevent.
There were continued improvements during the entire time it was available, with the build numbers increasing over time.

Will you continue version 4 along with version 5 - or will you terminate version 4 and continue with version 5..?

i'd like to upgrade to support the devs

but sometimes i changes things and i get annoyed

--
in the new version people are complaining about the file backup being clunky, i rarely use this so its cool. but it does sound clunky

but i do a daily backup

if i use the new restore option
it will

restore
then reboot
then overwrite my backup with a new backup (run if missed)

which isn't much help.

i restore with a CD anyway

drag and drop, doesnt get me too hot?

i'd probably only be upgrading to support the developers

then i'd get all stressed out and ruin it all by posting on the forum.

Macrium Reflect has saved me from hours of stress when thing go wrong. i have the greatest respect and trust for it as an extra layer of security.

do i need the upgrade?

i had the same license with addons but upgraded solely to support the product & future development, i felt v5 is a more complete product hence addons and scattered utils are now integrated.

compared with many other vendors?
v4 could easily turned into v5 when windows7 first appeared, macrium choosed further development and improving existing product.
for that i'm early adopting v5..
i do expect some glithches & bugs in the beginning hence major release.

Version 5 is replacing version 4.

First of all, I must say that, besides Macrium Reflect itself, I really appreciate this support forum! - fast answers on everything, that is, even regarding to controversial issues as this one! Apparently much transparency and strength here! Well done!

About the version issue,
As most of you out there I am fully prepared to support Macrium Reflect economically from time to time for there great effort.
However in my case I just feel it is way over the edge, being forced to upgrade to a whole new version, since I already paid 62 dollars (incl.tax) less than 9 month ago for version 4 + the redeploy addition.
All together, this would mean an investment of:

62$ (incl.19% tax), Macrium Reflect, vers.4 + Redeploy addition
49$ (incl.19% tax), for the new Pro version 5 (50% upgrade offer)
That is 111$ all together for less than one year in use!!

As there seems no way that the company would roll back this controversial decision, it is then essential for me to know:

1. Schedule for future version upgrades?
2. The time limit for the current version 5, 50% upgrade offer?

Talking into account the spendings I already have made, I obviously must consider whether it actually would be vice for me to continue with this product, or not...

Regards, Morten

1. Macrium has never announced their schedules for version upgrades as long as I've been using it.
2. Discounts for prior users are typical. This shouldn't be any different.
Only you can answer if the new version makes sense to you. If better compatibility and continued development are important to you, then you have your answer.

I appreciate the potential for irritation,
but consider 9 months to be totally irrelevant.

What is relevant is :-
1. You are considering a fresh investment in a new version and have an interest in how long that will last.
2. The length of life of version 4.? from initial release until arrival of version 5 may possibly indicate how long it will be before version 6 with unspecified capabilities is released.
3. FAR MORE IMPORTANT is the total length of life, which does not terminate until
A) The support forum AND email support for the product is closed (not happened yet); and
B) Your system is so changed/upgraded that you can no longer use without additional support.

I strongly suspect that Macrium has been focussing efforts upon :-
Continued support for existing users;
Refining and debugging the new version 5.
I really doubt that they have wasted much time with "blue sky dreaming" of what version 6 will do.

I do not think they know exactly what they will offer with version 6,
and if they did know it would not be prudent to release future product plans to their competitors.

You might as well ask them details of what patents they might apply for ! !

Okay, after contacting the firm directly, questions has been answered and things has now been sorted out for the better.

Having said that, and after receiving so many ignorant and irrelevant comments on this matter, which in its basic substance is clearly unfair, I would strongly consider if it's actually worth the effort to bring up important issues ever again in this forum.

Morten,
One of the other responses might not have been the friendliest (and I'm not saying it was appropriate), but if you go back and reread your original post, you will also see a little hostility.
In any case, if you continue to use the software and have any issues, post back and those issues should hopefully be addressed.
