Hi,

Im hoping someone has an idea on whats going on.. Im getting This error on one of my systems: Result Code: 0x8000ffff

Backing up my D drive to my C drive. I also get this error if I try to backup my D drive to a network or USB drive, or the internal primary drive (C drive).

However, I can successfuly backup my C drive to my D Drive.

Windows 2003 SP1.

Hi

This is a problem with Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Service.

Try googling 'VSS 0x8000ffff'. You'll find quite a lot of people with similar issues.

Look in your system event log for VSS messages. This might give you a clue.

Thanks Steve.

Event viewer gave me the info. I had a SQL database which was set to Single user mode, and a process was activly using that DB. Which means no other user could access the database and shadow copy was failing. Ive lifted the restrictions on that database and everything seems to be ok.
