Can the free version of Macrium Reflect create an image of a complete HDD on a desktop machine running Linux Ubuntu Version 12.04.4 ?
Formerly an XP machine but now running only Linux Ubuntu. Nothing else on the HDD except Linux Ubuntu.

Thank you,
Conrad

Hi,

Yes providing:
1) You use the PE rescue CD.
2) The system is MBR/GPT partitions. LVM configurations are not supported.

Kind Regards
John - Macrium Support

Hello John,
It took some doing but I got it to work. I saved one image to 3 DVD's and one image to a attached USB flash drive.
Reflect sees the HDD's differently when you image Linux and it did see both DVD drives and the attached USB drive but used different drive letters then I use when Windows XP is installed.
Each HDD and each partition has it's own physical name so that helped me identify what I was looking at even if the drive letters were different then what I was used to in Windows.
Thanks again,
Conrad

Meaningful disk labels are recommended even for Windows. The drive letters are assigned when the recovery environment starts and they may get assigned differently. Assuming the letters are always the same is a potential disaster.
