Don't understand how drive letters are assigned and how detach works.
I've tried to detach one old disc image but it seems to have several drive letters & detach doesn't work

v4: The following tutorial describes how to mount Images & file and folder backups in Windows Explorer:

If your Image contains several partitions then you can select which of the partitions in the Image will be mounted in Windows explorer. Each partition will be allocated a different drive letter.

When you follow the tutorial to detach your partitions you can select which partitions to detach (one partition several partitions or all partitions).

Please note that all your mounted partitions get detached if you shut down your PC, but this does not happen if you only hibernate your PC.

Hope this helps

Macrium is much better, and also much worse, than Acronis.

If you use Windows Explorer to select an image file,
right click context menu includes "Explore".
I would prefer it to include "Mount for Exploration" but I can accept Explore.
Via "Explore" you can select which drives to mount with new letters.

When you are finished with it you can use Windows Explorer to select the mounted virtual drive letter, and via right click you can UNmount.
This is infinitely better than Acronis in that Acronis always caused FTDisk errors and the need for Chkdsk on the external drive which held the image file.

The Macrium GUI menu is, in my view, much worse than the Acronis GUI in that instead of using the familiar UNmount it has the peculiar DETACH,
and it was only after I had a redundant image file that I risked an amputation of one of the drives in the backup file, and then I found Detach did not mean amputate - who would have thought ! !

I have no complaints about how Macrium works, but regret inconsistent terminology.
